Academy
A part of an institution that delivers learning services in the form of Academy courses as part of the Cisco Networking Academy Program is known as an Academy.
Academy Hierarchy
The Cisco Networking Academy Program has a tiered structure designed to accommodate growth and remain self-sustaining. Because of this structure, each CATC, Regional Academy, Local Academy has a single institution "above" it called its parent academy and multiple institution "below" it called its children academies. Each Regional Academy is responsible for training, supporting and monitoring the instructors at their Local Academies.
Academy Locator
The Academy Locator enables end-users to locate an Academy in a specified geographic location.
Academy Marketplace
The Cisco Marketplace features companies that offer products and services to Cisco Networking Academies worldwide at cost or a discounted price.
Accredited Career College
(ACC)
Accredited Career Colleges are private, postsecondary schools that provide career-specific educational programs.
Alumni Connection The Alumni Connection is the official, global web site for Alumni of the Cisco Networking Academy Program. It includes community-building features and provides access to curricula that Alumni have already completed. The site also includes career development tools and resources.
Alumni Member Eligible Alumni are Academy Instructors and Students who received the required score, have registered as Alumni Members through the Academy Connection, and have paid for access to the Alumni web site.
Assessment Purpose The program uses assessments that are both formative and summative evaluations. Formative assessments are more informal and are used to help guide teacher instruction or student learning. Pre-tests and quizzes are examples of formative assessments. Summative assessments are more formal and are generally used at the end of instruction to summarize a student's learning. Chapter and final exams are examples of summative assessments.
Cisco Online Testing (COLT) Cisco tracks the global results of assessments using a database-driven system that allows for the authorizing, delivery, administration, and reporting of assessment items from all Academies.
Certification To be certified with a Cisco degree, a learner must pass an assessment with a minimum acceptable score. To increase validity and assure authentication, the certification process should be proctored by an independent agent. Cisco offers Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) degrees.
Cisco Academy Training Center
(CATC)
A Cisco Academy Training Center (CATC) is responsible for supporting, monitoring, and training Instructors for Regional Academies.
Cisco Certified Academy
Instructor (CCAI)
Instructor candidates who successfully complete all required curriculum courses, pass the industry recognized certification exam, and successfully teach at least one course of the curriculum utilizing the use of online exams receive Cisco Certified Academy Instructor (CCAI) certificates.
Cisco Certified Network
Associate (CCNA)
Students who complete a four-course curriculum of basic networking concepts and earn a certification by passing a test on the concepts learned in that curriculum receive CCNA industry certification. The CCNA certification indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking for the small office/home office (SOHO) market. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to the use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, IPX, Serial, AppleTalk, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists.
Cisco Certified Network

The Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification indicates advanced or journeyman knowledge of networks. With a CCNP, a network professional can install, configure, and operate LAN,WAN, and dial access services for organizations with networks from 100 to more than 500 nodes, including, but not limited to these protocols: IP, IGRP, IPX, Async Routing, AppleTalk, Extended Access Lists, IP RIP, Route Redistribution, RIP, Route Summarization, OSPF, VLSM, BGP, Serial, Frame Relay, ISDN, ISL, X.25, DDR, PSTN, PPP, VLANs, Ethernet, Access Lists, 802.10, FDDI, Transparent and Translational Bridging.
Cisco Networking Academy
Management System (CNAMS)
The Cisco Networking Academy Management System is the primary source of information for operating Academies. This Web site is maintained by Cisco and provides access to Academy curricula, administrational and instructional tools, and other information necessary for the successful operation of the Cisco Networking Academy Program.
Cisco Networking Academy
Program
The Cisco Networking Academy Program is a comprehensive program designed to teach students Internet technology skills.
Class Environment The Cisco Networking Academy Program courses may be delivered in three environments: 100% in person, 100% remote or a combination of the two. It is up to the discretion of the Academy how a particular class will be offered. Not every curriculum is available in a remote environment.
Class Cisco defines a "class" as a learning event, the instance of the delivery of a scheduled course in which mentored learning occurs (which may or may not occur in a physical location).
Course A course is a subset of a curriculum; a collection of chapters to be offered as a scheduled course.
Course Material Academies use course material including the curriculum, lab exercises, teacher's guides, and similar material made available to Academies by Cisco.
Curriculum Curriculum is a predefined or dynamic path of learning events with an end goal such as certification or achieving required job skills and knowledge.
